New blog and maple syrup!
Microphone, check! Just testing out the new blog, to be honest. Thanks for stumbling in. I will do my best to post once a week on here, no more, no less.
And, while I'm here, I may as well add some content...a pic of some of the syrup i have been making from the sugar maples on the property. I only tapped four trees to start, as I wasn't sure how much sap I'd be dealing with. It is a bit of a long process, cooking it down (fun fact: it takes about 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup!) but totally worth it for this pure, sweet, liquid gold. I might be biased but it tastes unlike any other maple syrup I've tasted before.
Come next year, this operation will be a little more dialed-in, hopefully, and we can scale it up a bit and make enough to share with friends. I have 15 taps, so that might be the goal. Stay tuned for more Fruitdale Farm news! Keep smiling!
